Where Is Our Wellbeing Now?
It’s no secret that schools have been under ever-increasing pressure the past two decades.
But the last five years in particular have seen a seismic shift in what is expected of our school staff.
We’re being asked to do more, with less…
And it’s not working.
Reduced funding, increasingly-unrealistic expectations and drastically more diverse needs in our classrooms are leading to:
So, What Now?
Wellbeing is no longer a luxury, it’s the foundation of any well-functioning school environment where every individual can reach their full potential.
Despite the struggles we face, I believe that, together, we can empower staff to thrive by creating cultures of realistic wellbeing, where we employ a human-first approach.
This comes not from solely reducing workload but by equipping our staff with the skills, strategies and mindset needed to manage their mental health amongst the challenges of teaching.
By giving staff agency, creating trusting teams and sharing the responsibility of wellbeing, we can guide our staff from overwhelmed and isolated to in-control and connected.
The Rewriting Wellbeing Ripple
The benefits of investing in staff wellbeing extend far beyond individual improvements in health or happiness; they create a trickle down effect of that reaches every corner of our school communities! It leads to:
• Higher staff morale: Happy, supported educators bring energy and enthusiasm to their roles.
• Reduced absenteeism, saving valuable time and resources while maintaining consistency for students.
• Enhanced productivity and creativity, leading to exceptional learning experiences for children.
• Stronger connections within your community, fostering a culture where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued.
• Staff Engagement and Retention: Supported staff are more engaged and less likely to leave, reducing turnover.
• Enhanced Pupil Outcomes: When educators thrive, they bring more energy and creativity into the classroom, positively impacting all outcomes.
At The Teachers’ Health Coach, we facilitate these changes through workshops, staff coaching and annual support programmes so that schools, and their staff, can be empowered in rewriting their own wellbeing!
